In the early 2000s, amidst the backdrop of low commodity coffee prices, the Specialty Coffee Association of Panama introduced "The Best of Panama" competition. This groundbreaking event aimed to showcase the finest coffee lots, sparking a global interest in premium Panamanian coffee.

One particular estate, Hacienda La Esmerelda, owned by the Peterson family, had cultivated a distinctive variety known as "geisha" for years. Their participation in the Panama coffee competition catapulted the geisha coffee bean into the international spotlight. Remarkably, they secured victory in the competition for four consecutive years from 2004 to 2007, and again in 2009 and 2010.

The success of Hacienda La Esmerelda Geisha coffee led to an unprecedented surge in its price. In 2013, it achieved a staggering $350.25 per pound, making it the world's most expensive auctioned coffee. But does the flavor profile justify the price tag? Undoubtedly. The geisha variety is uniquely characterized by its intensely floral notes, bursts of citrus fruit, and a tea-like body.

While geisha coffee can be found in other parts of Central America, Panama's distinct climate and soil provide an unparalleled advantage. Building on this legacy, and following our recent land acquisition in Boquete, we proudly introduce Batalla Coffee. This specialty coffee, offered in seven exclusive secret blends, aims to put Panama on the map.
